I upgraded my laptop a year and a half ago and got vista on it. I actually quite liked vista and could see that microsoft were perhaps laying down a foundation for future versions of its operating systemts. Perhaps I was the only one? or perhaps it was because the service pack on had been released at that point. I gradually moved back to linux and had a dual boot system for until last week. It had been over 6 months since I logged into vista.
For some stange reason I could not fathom Inkscape had stopped in ubuntu. Well it loaded but it did not render much in the way of images. As no-one else was reporting such problems I figured something was up with my system. I decided to re-install ubuntu and while I was at it wipe out Vista. Why wipe out Vista? Well it was dual boot and defaulted to booting into Vista, I am sure this sort of thing is configurable but the most easiest thing to do was remove vista and then I can turn my laptop on and go make a cup of tea without hanging around for the select screen to appear.
