Rambling from early August 2012

This is going to be another one of those post that roams over a series of topics so breaks all the rules when it come to blogging.

I published a little android game the other night. It is my first proper libgdx game and is pretty rough and the graphics are terrible. Here is a link should you with to see it.

So why did I publish it if I am not that happy with it. Well I am trying to get into the habit of finishing stuff. Finishing will hopefully equate to learning more about things outside of programming. I may even get better at art if I actually do more drawing :)

I am also moving on to the next project. Although I don't know what that will be just yet. First I am taking a week or so off from coding home projects. There is a lot of little things I want to do so figured a proper break would be good.

I am moving over to Bodhi Linux really just for fun. It seems very snappy compared with Ubuntu on my two and a bit year old laptop. I find waiting for computers an extremely frustrating experience. There is also part of me that want to practice my art a little more before starting my next game.

Finally I have a huge backlog of books I want to make an effort to get through. Well it is holiday season so churning through a few books should not be much of a problem...

This year holiday season means I will be taking random days off work to go camping or visit various destination with the children. Not your traditional 2 weeks off more lots of long weekends and two day midweek breaks or mini adventures as we call them in out house. It does mean august will probably not be a good month for programming so taking a week or two off will not hit my productivity much.

Finally I am thinking I would like to attempt to at least have a slight plan with sketches before I start my next game. My usual route is to just start coding, then mix in some artwork and just keep a to-do list of the next 5-10 most  important things to do. Starting with a few pages of sketches for designs may help to make my game development less coding centric. A trap I easily fall into.
