Working Late A Few Fixes

Working Late now works with IE8. Yay. I am a Linux user so don't have instant access to IE. I use Linux not because of idealogical reasons. It is as simple as a few years ago the sound stopped working on my laptop of that time. No amount of forcing would get windows to play sounds. Ubuntu when I tried the bootable CD play a lovely sound as it booted. I was into sound synthesis using Java at the time. Switching OS seemed worth it at the time. I had used linux and other unix systems in the past so it was not an unknown to me.

After a while I got comfortable with linux and have not moved away from it since them. Ok I tried vista for a few months but eventually slipped back into linux. I am fairly pragmatic about operating systems and if I brought a new laptop I would be happy with windows 7 or linux, heck even Mac OS would be fine with me. I mainly code stuff and browse the internet and any OS is capable of that. My two fundamental requirements are, it is responsive and it works as in I don't have to worry about drivers or updates to it.

I digress. My other half has a Windows 7 laptop. After some prodding IE8 was able to run Working Late. There were a few JavaScript mistakes and I better understand some of JSLint complaints now.  I hit the fact IE8 JavaScript implementation does not have things like forEach implemented.

It does look fairly ugly and that is coming from a programmer. I did most of the styling using CSS much of which IE8 does not support. I did not try it on IE9 pre-release but I am sure it will be better. In fact while browsing around the topic it looks like IE9 will be quite a nice browser in terms of what it supports. the sooner it is released and IE8/7 usage starts to shrink the better the internet world will be.

I collated up the development times for working late and will do a longer post what I learned creating Working Late at some point. I imagine it will be a little bit of a post-mortem on it all.

I also got round to putting it on the chrome store.  My gut feeling is this is not going to generate much in the way of traffic but at very least I have tried it.

If you don't like Choose your own adventure game then fear not, I am just gearing up for the next project and that it not going to be one of those so this blog will contain a whole lot less discussion about it.
