My Criteria For The Software For Building Mini Websites.

As I mentioned previously the idea of making many fairly small target websites appeals to me. It seems like something fun to do that would let me learn a reasonable amount about marketing and marketing research. Before starting off on something like this I like to get some operating parameters sorted out otherwise things can quickly get out of control.

First I don’t want it to become a drain on me. This means on a week by week basis there should be no maintenance. I don’t want to be updating to the latest version of wordpress on various sites, which is a pain if you have more than a few sites using it. This means I will be looking at hosted solutions

I do not want any recurring costs. No monthly subscriptions to things and so on. While I don’t mind paying for stuff, this is meant to be fun. If I have monthly costs then I feel pressure to have monthly earnings. While I will probably put Adsense on the sites I do not want to focus on making money at this exact point. Having said that is would be nice so I am not going to go out of my way to make it hard for me to make money.

I am happy to consider using money to pay for some things but initially I want to experience the whole cycle of website development before out sourcing things.

So what does this all mean. Well it pretty much means I am going to be considering free hosting options such as blogger. One concern with this is will search engines consider it more spammy or perhaps down grade the site it if is not updated regularly enough. Given I want to create and forget I need to think on this some more, will using free services doom my experiments to failure?
